Warhounds System Requirements

Warhounds is a released Steam PC title (August 11, 2026) that asks for a modern mid-range gaming machine and a large install. Before you buy during an intro sale or after, match your hardware against the official Steam tables below. This page is for the single-player Windows build—console editions are planned separately with no public ship date yet.

Official minimum requirements

Steam lists these as the minimum configuration. Treat them as the floor for launching the game at workable settings, not a promise of maxed visuals or high frame rates.

Two details matter more than the marketing row: the 8 GB VRAM callout and the 85 GB install budget. Older “entry gaming” GPUs with 4–6 GB VRAM are outside this floor even if the chip name looks familiar. Free disk space should be measured on the drive you install to, with headroom left for Windows updates and Steam shader caches.

Recommended is the sensible target if you want cleaner frame pacing while the camera pans across destructible cover, drone tools, and denser firefights. System RAM jumping from 8 GB to 16 GB is often as important as the GPU step when you leave Chrome, Discord overlays, and recording software running beside a large tactics title.

How to read these specs in practice

CPU. The minimum Intel i5-9600 / Ryzen 5 3600X band is a late-2010s six-core class. If your processor is older or heavily laptop-throttled, expect longer turns when AI pathing and destruction resolve—not necessarily a hard crash. Recommended CPUs (i5-12600K / Ryzen 7 5700X) give more headroom for background apps and higher settings.

GPU and VRAM. Warhounds’ minimum line is unusually explicit about 8 GB VRAM alongside GTX 1070 Ti / RX 5700. That is a stronger floor than many strategy games that still list 1050 Ti-class cards. If Steam’s “Can you run it?” helper or your OEM laptop sheet shows less than 8 GB dedicated memory, plan on lowering textures and effects or waiting for clearer community performance reports after launch.

RAM. Eight gigabytes can launch many games in 2026, but it is a tight fit next to a modern browser and voice chat. Sixteen gigabytes is the comfort zone for a campaign evening.

Storage. Reserve a full 85 GB before you schedule a download on a nearly full SSD. Tactics games with large environments and audio banks punish fragmented or nearly full drives with longer stutter when streaming assets between the strategic layer and missions.

DirectX 11. The Steam table lists DirectX 11 for both minimum and recommended at launch. Keep GPU drivers current from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel rather than relying on Windows Update alone.

Laptop and handheld notes

Laptop GPUs often share marketing names with desktop cards while delivering lower sustained clocks. Compare the mobile SKU’s dedicated VRAM and TGP (power limit), not only the brand string. If you are aiming for Steam Deck or other handhelds, treat Deck verification as a separate checklist from this desktop table—community reports and Valve’s Steam Deck status on the store page matter more than copying desktop presets.

Pre-purchase checklist

1. Confirm Windows 10 or 11 64-bit and enough free space for 85 GB plus a buffer.
2. Check Task Manager or your GPU control panel for dedicated video memory, not shared system memory alone.
3. Close the gap to recommended RAM if you already sit at 8 GB and multitask heavily.
4. Re-read the live Steam page via Official Links in case a hotfix revises the table.
5. After install, start with Getting Started instead of maxing every graphics slider on mission one.

Performance expectations for a tactics game

Warhounds is turn-based, so competitive esports frame rates are not the main fantasy. What you want is stable pacing during camera moves, readable smoke and tracer feedback, and short wait times when destruction or overwatch chains resolve. If the game is playable at minimum but hitching during heavy particle moments, drop shadows and effects before you abandon the campaign—the tactics layer is the product, not the benchmark chart.

Players coming from lighter indie tactics titles should not under-budget the install. Eighty-five gigabytes is closer to a modern action or open-world download than to a minimalist grid game. Plan the SSD slot the way you would for a large single-player release, because that is what the Steam listing describes.
