Warhounds Tier List Hub

Practical S–C rankings for the Steam campaign’s early and mid missions.

Tier List Hub

This hub is the home for Warhounds tier thinking after the August 11, 2026 Steam release. Rankings here are reasoned opinions for the early and mid campaign—when you are still learning real ballistics, building a mobile base, and deciding which veterans to protect. They are not fake absolute scores, and they will shift as you unlock better kit, new contracts, and harder Daamat strongholds.

Warhounds is a single-player turn-based tactics game inspired by XCOM and Jagged Alliance. You command a mercenary squad in an alternate-future East Africa, where every projectile is a physical event, cover can be destroyed, and high ground or cone overwatch can decide a fight before the first volley. That design means “tier” is about reliability under honest lines of fire, not about chasing a hidden meta number.

How to use these lists

Start with the class tier list if you are still deciding who belongs on the deployment pad. Move to the weapon tier list once you have a budget and a few shop options. Finish with the gadget tier list when you want reconnaissance, smoke, scanners, drones, or optical camo to cover the gaps your firearms leave open.

Each child page explains ranking criteria up front: mission type, lethality, inventory pressure, and how well a pick survives the game’s burst-penalty and damage-range rules. If two options look equal on paper, prefer the one that forgives a bad angle or an injured squadmate.

Ranking philosophy for early and mid campaign

Early contracts reward flexibility. Mid campaign rewards specialists who can hold a lane, crack a fortified room, or extract under pressure. We weight:

  • Line reliability — Can you create a clean shot without praying for a miracle?
  • Role coverage — Does the pick fill Assault, Specialist, Sniper, Machine Gunner, or Grenadier needs without forcing a weak second slot?
  • Economy — Is the upgrade worth the credits and downtime before the next 25–40 minute mission?
  • Synergy with gadgets — Smoke, drones, scanners, and camo change how weapons and classes feel on the same map.

Cross-check roster advice on the Operators Hub and practical kits on the Tools Hub. Tier pages tell you what tends to be strong; tools pages tell you how to pack the bag.

What these lists deliberately avoid

We do not invent percentage tables the game never showed, fake DPS charts, or “must ban” language copied from multiplayer shooters. Warhounds is single-player. Your difficulty slider, faction choices, and injured veterans matter more than a global ladder. Use tiers as a starting argument, then validate them against the sight lines you actually see.

When a patch or DLC reshuffles shops and traits, return here first, then re-read the child pages. Until then, treat S-tier as “safe to invest early,” A-tier as “excellent with a plan,” B-tier as “situational but honest,” and C-tier as “wait for a better window.”

Suggested reading order

  1. Skim this hub’s criteria.
  2. Rank your first four deploy slots with classes.
  3. Spend your first serious armory run using weapons.
  4. Plug utility holes with gadgets.
  5. Convert the shortlist into a checklist on squad loadouts or class builds.

Keep a spare body on the bench, keep meds funded, and remember that a mid-tier rifle in a perfect flank still beats an S-tier toy pointed at reinforced cover. That is the Warhounds tier mindset for this wiki.

Which tier page should I open first?

Start with classes if your roster is thin, weapons if you have cash, and gadgets when you need vision or concealment tools.

Do tiers change after mid campaign?
